BalLad oF a MoTheR's HeArt

Ballad of A Mother's Heart by Jose La Villa Tierra

The night was dark,
For the moon was young,
And the Stars were asleep and rare,
The clouds were thick,
Yet Youth went out,
To see his Maiden fair.

Dear one,
he pleaded as he knelt before her feet in tears.
My love is true,
Why you have kept me waiting all this years?
The maiden looked at him.
Unmoved it seemed,
And whispered low.

Persistent Youth,
You have to prove by deeds,
Your love is true.
"There's not a thing
I would not do for you, Beloved" said he.
"Then, go." said she. "To your mother dear,
And bring her heart to me.

Without another word,
Youth left and went to his mother dear.
He opened her breast and took her heart!
But he did not shed a tear.

Then back to his Maiden fair,
He run unmindful of the rain.
But his feet slipped, And he fell down,
And loud, he groaned with pain!

Still in his hand he held the prize,
That would win his Maiden's hands.
But he thought of his mother dear,
So kind,so sweet,so fond.

And then,
he heard a voice!
Not from his lips,
But all apart!

"Get up" it said.
"Were you hurt,Child?"
It was his mother's heart

Sad LitTle HouSeS

Sad Little Houses
Amparo R. Asuncion

The sad little houses, the poor little houses
Crowd by the riverside;
The holes in their roofs, the crack in ther walls,
Vainly they tried to hide

The strench of the river, the dark, muddy river
Is with them night and day;
Pure, fresh air may be had for the moving,
But they cant move away.

They can only stand by the bank of the river
Buried knee-deep in day;
They can only stare at the drifting garbage,
Until they,too,decay.

And pass away into ghost of houses
Killed by a burning sun,
Smothered with dust and then forgotten-
Forgotten by everyone.

The SeA

THE SEA
By Natividad Marquez

Why does the sea laugh, Mother,
As it glints beneath the sun?
It is thinking of the joys, my child,
That it wishes every one.
Why does the sea sob so, Mother,
As it breaks on the rocky shore?
It recalls the sorrows of the world.
And weeps forevermore.
Why is the sea so peaceful, Mother,
As if it were fast asleep?
It would give our tired hearts, dearest child,
The comfort of the deep.

TrUe LovE nEvEr diE

True love never dies,

Even when one is gone.
Though the girl may always cry,
Their love is very strong.

There was a girl, who loved a boy,

They knew each other well.
Together they were filled with joy,
Everybody could tell.

Then one day she told him news,

She was going to die.
She needed a heart that she could use,
So she could stay alive.

She left a room to save her life,

The doctors took her in
The boy was full of pain and strife,
For he would meet his end.

The procedure was done and she came out,

To meet her true love.
But she was sad and about to shout,
Because her love was gone.

Where he went she didn't know,

So she decided to ask her mom.
"Where did he go?" she wanted to know,
Her mom sat her down.

She heard the news and cried out,

For her love had saved her life.
He gave his heart so she could live.
Even if he would die.

True love never dies,

Even when one is gone.
Though the girl may always cry,
Their love is very strong.

She went to his grave to say goodbye,

She smiled for a while.
Then she fell and started to cry,
She would never get to see his smile.

"One day," she said holding back tears,

She tried not to cry.
"We will be together soon my dear"
She looked up at the sky.

Their love lasted far past the grave,

They never gave up on each other.
They are holding hands now today,
Smiling because they have one another.

True love never dies,

Even when one is gone.
Though the girl may always cry,
Their love is very strong.
